The Board Of Directors' Career Resource Center

The Board of Directors' Career Resource Center is a service for those who (1) serve on Boards (2) report to Boards or report to those who report to Boards (3) ought to have solid professional contacts with Board members and (4) wish to position themselves to serve on Boards.

The best way to understand the value of this website is just to browse through the different departments. Explore it.

This website also gives you a sense of how we think at Stybel Peabody Lincolnshire. The Board of Directors' Career Resource Center is sponsored by Stybel Peabody Lincolnshire. Founded in 1979, we are a consulting firm devoted to helping companies who seek to insure “smooth management transitions” for key players.

By “transitions” we mean retained executive search, senior level coaching, and outplacement. Our practice thus focuses on the smooth movement of key players into, up through, and out of systems.

Here are some management issues we help our clients with:

  1. “It is Vital That We Quickly Identify the Right Person AND Achieve a Smooth Transition Into the Organization.”

What is unique about our executive search practice is that we have twenty years experience in understanding why these relationships fail. In our role as outplacement consultants, we get a chance to have in-depth conversations with both sides of the failed relationship.

We are bringing our knowledge of how things fail to an understanding of how to keep good initial fits good.

We just completed a search for a CFO for a $300 Million public retail company. We are currently doing searches for a CEO of a software company and a VP Marketing for a global consulting firm. We are doing a search for a VP Human Resources for a major regional health care provider. Stybel Peabody Lincolnshire brought in an external member of the Board of Directors for a restaurant chain.

The software company is seeking its first round of venture financing. We discounted our normal fee in return for an equity position with the company. If we believe in what our client company is doing and believe that we can truly provide significant long-term value to our client, then we welcome the opportunity to take an equity position.

  2. “I Can't Live With This Person.....and Can't Live Without This Person.

The organization needs their talents but can't live with the flaws. Is there anything that can be done to turn these executives around, short of termination?

Given the high costs of turnover and recruitment, we can make a compelling case that rehabilitation is far less expensive than replacement.

We have particular credibility in working effectively with what we call “slash” people. These are extraordinarily intelligent people who have dual professional identities. Examples would include “investment professional/manager,” “scientist/manager,” “director/physician,” “engineer/manager,” “nurse/director,” and “partner/attorney.”

  3. “We Need to Structure a “Departure With Dignity”

Companies wish a departure with dignity for a variety of reasons. Perhaps it is because it is the right thing to do; perhaps it is because it wants to make a statement about its business ethics to executives who remain; perhaps it is because full outplacement services can be a relatively inexpensive inducement to get an executive to sign a waiver of rights agreement.

Our unique approach to outplacement is teaching our job candidates to think like members of Boards of Directors and to network at Board levels. Because of our Board of Directors perspective, we work with senior executives from around the country.
